The original manuscript of Edgar Allan Poe‘s classic 1943 poem “The Conqueror Worm,” presumed lost until recently, has fetched $300,000 at an auction held by Massachusetts’ Marion Antiques. The lot was consigned by a Rhode Island family and purchased by a private collector. It is handwritten, signed and—quite suprisingly—dedicated to editor and critic R.W. Griswold, with whom Poe held a legendary feud throughout most of his life.
