Over two decades after the book’s publication, Jeff Bridges’ adaptation of  The Giver is finally on its way. Considering that we’ve been wanting to see a movie since we read Lois Lowry‘s dystopian classic in middle school, we’re dying of happiness.

In the future, society has eliminated war, pain, sickness, diversity, love… and free will. When Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) turns 16, he is chosen to become the Receiver of Memory—the only one in his community to remember the world as it existed before. As he inherits the Giver’s (Bridges) memories of war pain, but also happiness, Jonas begins to realize that his utopian world isn’t so perfect after all. But when everything is controlled, asking questions is a dangerous game.

With a cast that includes Meryl Streep and Katie Holmes, this adaptation looks to be everything we envisioned. The Giver comes to theaters August 15, which is way too far away.

OMG The Giver.
