The long-awaited trailer for Marvel’s latest comic book adaptation Guardians of the Galaxy is finally here! The film follows a bunch of misfit superheroes who join together to protect the galaxy, even as no one takes them all that seriously. Here’s the official synopsis:
An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe.
To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon (Bradley Cooper); Groot, a tree-like humanoid (Vin Diesel); the deadly and enigmatic Gamora (Zoe Saldana); and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista). But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand–with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
Fans of Guardians—currently written by Brian Michael Bendis in comic-book form—will finally see the Marvel movie universe expand beyond Earth and Asgard. Those not so familiar will be able to enjoy a purposefully comedic superhero movie that genre-builds like nobody’s business. The trailer already has us laughing:
“They call themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy.” “What a bunch of a-holes.”
Guardians of the Galaxy comes to theaters August 1, 2014.
