Are you a fan of novels that make your heart beat faster, your pulse quicken and that keep you up all night turning the pages? Then why not attend the 8th annual ThrillerFest, held this year from July 10-13 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in midtown Manhattan? Made up of three parts, ThrillerFest is a four-day celebration of the thriller genre for readers, authors and agents alike. This year’s just-announced headliners are bestselling supernatural fiction author Anne Rice and children’s horror author R.L. Stine. The gathering kicks off with CraftFest, a two-day writing-school event featuring hour-long classes taught by such esteemed authors as Ken Follett and Steve Berry.
Attendees learn how to pitch manuscripts, write opening sentences and market their final product. This prepares them for AgentFest, held on the convention ’s second afternoon. The world’s largest gathering of top literary representatives, AgentFest gives participants the chance to pitch their work to over fifty agents all actively seeking new clients. The gathering closes with ThrillerFest (the name is used for both the convention itself and its third part), with two days of panels on a variety of subjects and cocktail parties and special events at night. Examples of past sessions include Would You Make a Good Spy?, How to Go From Mid-List to Magnificent, and Does Sex Really Sell? There are also one-on-one interviews with headliners and other special guests. This year’s featured guests are THE LINCOLN LAWYER author Michael Connelly, and L.A. OUTLAWS author T. Jefferson Parker.
