Lost creator J.J. Abrams and Alive in Necropolis author Doug Dorst have finally completed S., a novel first announced by publisher Little, Brown & Company in 2011 as a “multilayered literary puzzle” with clues scattered “between the pages, online, and in the real world.” Looking to hype up the book’s upcoming fall release, editor Joshua Kendell revealed the first such clue during last week’s BookExpo America: a postcard from Ibirapitanga, Brazil, addressed to “Fellow Birders” and signed “E.” The note refers to a potential meeting with “a very old nightingale near Marau,” but is otherwise classically Abramsian in its ambiguity.
