DC Entertainment imprint Vertigo has announced that fantasy author Neil Gaiman will pen a six-issue prequel to his award-winning comic series Sandman, which ended in 1996. Sandman: Overture will follow Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, before and during the seven-decade-long imprisonment that he escapes from at the beginning of the original series. “This is the one story that we never got to tell,” said Gaiman in a press release, and added that the accompanying artwork by first-time collaborator J.H. Williams III is “the most beautiful thing in the world.” Issue No. 1 will launch October 30, with the rest to follow every two months.
