Acclaimed for Look To Windward and dozens of other sci-fi and mainstream novels, Scottish author Iain Banks has died of gall bladder cancer. He was 59. Banks announced his terminal illness last April, and requested that Little Brown expedite release of his final novel so that he could witness it before passing. The publisher delivered: “Three weeks ago he was presented with finished copies and enjoyed celebration parties,” confirmed a rep. The Quarry, to be published on June 20, revolves around a man in his forties battling terminal cancer.
