Welcome back, Earthlings and Lunars! Did you enjoy Book One as much as I did?
Now we’re diving deep into Book Two. To recap: Kai’s ship landed safely on Luna, and then everything went wrong. Cress is alone and in danger, Cinder and the rest are on the run, Kai is being forced into marriage, and Levana still sucks.
If you’re caught up, continue on:
The huntsman took pity on her and said,
“Run away into the woods, child, and never come back.”
Welp. Now Levana definitely knows that Kai smuggled Cinder&Co in, but thankfully she can’t kill him because she needs him to make her empress.
I don’t know why there’s an octopus-shaped staircase on the moon, but I love it and I want one.
Winter saved Cress! Jacin is not as stoked about this as I am: “Princess, you have got to stop collecting these rebels.”
Anyone else think this when they saw the graffiti on the black cave walls saying: “HAVE YOU SEEN MY SON?”
When you learn that Levana controls all communication between sectors of Luna, and you’re like, wait is this the Moon or North Korea? Is this all an allegory for North Korea?
Cinder&Co need to get somewhere safe, and their only hope is that Wolf’s parents are alive and will accept them. Wolf is heartbreakingly hopeful about seeing his mom.
But she accepts them all! They’re united and it’s beautiful.
I FORGOT ABOUT THE ORIGINAL FAIRY TALE!! I’M SO STUPID—LEVANA WANTS JACIN TO KILL WINTER. NOOOOO. HE’S THE HUNTSMAN!
Jacin is all, “I will. My queen.” And I’m all:
Jacin is risking everything to sneak Winter and Scarlet out of the palace. He tried to get Cress to go too, but she knows she’s of more value inside near the computers. When he vows to protect her too, I’m just like:
As a side note, I love that Scarlet endearingly calls Winter “crazy.”
Oh, sweet baby Winter. She thinks Jacin asked her to meet him in the menagerie to confess his love, so she dressed up for him. He’s there to fake kill you, baby.
“The next time someone says they’re going to kill you, don’t just let them.”
Someone please protect Winter from the world. She’s too good: “Safety first, Scarlet-friend. We are fragile things.”
Winter doesn’t always seem to be fully aware of what is going on—especially in light of her attempted murder. When Scarlet brings up hiding with Wolf’s parents, Winter literally howls at her.
I know they’re in danger of being discovered, but Scarlet could be a bit more compassionate towards Winter, who is rightfully concerned that Jacin will be killed if anyone finds out he helped them.
Winter: “Who am I to presume what is good for others?”
Winter and Scarlet make it safely to the same sector that Cinder&Co are at but finding each other seems impossible…. until Wolf catches a whiff of Scarlet’s scent…
SCARLET AND WOLF! REUNITED AT LAST!
Chapter 34 begins with, “Linh Pearl stepped off the elevator…” and I’m sitting here like…
Oh shit, time to get kidnapped and go to Luna.
When Winter says, “I shall be a vestibule of unhampered sanity”…
Cinder/Selene’s message is broadcast to the citizens of Luna!!
There’s a moment of worry, she’s wondering if people will follow her after all, and then…
REVOLTS ARE HAPPENING! VIVA LA REVOLUTION!
Kai continues to spend the majority of Winter trapped in a palace without anything to do.
Booooo. Levana takes control of Kai and makes him renounce Cinder and her message.
Oh no, Levana’s doctors have harvested a mutated letumosis virus that affects Lunars. This could be biological warfare!
Danger, Will Robinson! Levana is sending Aimery to Regolith Mining 9—where the gang is!
I need a moment to process this.
Okay, take a deep breath, Kelly.
