Judging Books by Their Covers: 2015

Judging Books by Their Covers: 2015

You can try to tell us not to judge books by their covers, but we’re just going to do it anyway. A book’s cover serves as a reader’s first glimpse into the story, and we think cover designers deserve credit when their covers go above and beyond. Here, we pick 40 of our favorite book covers across eight different genres.

Click each cover to get a closer look at the design. Click the designer name to learn more about the book.

The Bookish Editors are a team of writers who aim to give readers more information about the books, authors, and genres that they love while also introducing them to new titles, debut writers, and genres they never thought they’d read.

  1. I loved this article. I hate to admit it; but, I am a book cover snob. Because I live in a very small apartment, I get the majority of my books from the library. I rarely even consider reading a book if I don’t like the looks of the cover. I am sure I have missed out on several good books; however, I read approximately 50-75 books per year, so at least I’m not running out of things to read.

  2. I am a bookseller and bought Everything, Everything just because of the cover! Have only done that once before in my life!

  3. While working as a bookseller, I did learn that I could typically discern the type of book from the cover art alone. It was an unexpected realization since I rather assumed I didn’t really pay much attention to covers. But I think we all do, at least initially. However, I always try to reserve any opinion until I have at least read the synopsis and/or a few pages of the book. I love all of these and for very different reasons! Nice posting!
