Goodbye to Konigsburg

Goodbye to Konigsburg

Chemist-turned-children’s author and illustrator E.L. Konigsburg died last Friday from post-stroke complications. She was 83. She won the children’s literature Newbery Medal twice: in 1997 for her book The View from Saturday and in 1968 for From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, which spawned the 1973 film adaptation The Hideaways, starring Ingrid Bergman. Also in 1968, her book Jennifer, Hecate, Macbeth, William McKinley, and Me, Elizabeth earned the Newbery Honor, making her the only author to produce a Newbery winner and runner-up in the same year.
