Watch This, Read That: Erin McCahan Pairs Novels with YouTube Channels

Some things just go together. Some people pair wine and cheese, but here, author Erin McCahan shares a pairing of another kind: books and YouTube channels. McCahan is the author of the new book The Lake Effect, a YA novel about Briggs Henry, who just finished his senior year of high school and has decided to spend his summer on the shores of Lake Michigan. Check out McCahan’s pairings below.

An Abundance of Katherines & Nathan Zed

Nathan Zed is a John Green novel. The perfect combination of depth, brilliance, and laughs.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl & Screen Junkies

We all know Greg and Earl would love this channel that’s full of movies—or movie trailers—and a healthy dose of sarcasm.

Eleanor & Park & Teens React

This book is set in the 80s and it references the decade throughout the whole book: the Walkman, Cabbage Patch Kids, and makeup on the show Designing Women to name just a few. Pair this read with Teens React to 80s fashion.

The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin & Bad Lip Reading

Main character Will Halpin is deaf and reads lips. Josh Berk’s books have some wicked humor in them, like this channel.

Lola and the Boy Next Door & Jenna Marbles

It’s the cuteness-quirkiness factor times a hundred!

The Lake Effect & Kevin and Lill

Briggs and Vesna practically are Kevin and Lill!
