Beauty or Beast: Fun and Games with Sarah J. Maas at BookCon 2015

If you can’t tell from the way the sun is streaming through the Javits ceiling to shine upon her in our video, Sarah J. Maas owned this year’s BookCon. The line for her 11:00 am autographing session was capped at 8:40 am, but we were lucky enough to snag an interview with her before she went out to meet her fans. Many were there to have her sign books from her Throne of Glass series, but we wanted the scoop on her new fairy tale-inspired series: A Court of Thorns and Roses (or ACOTAR, as Maas likes to call it). Here, our editor Kelly Gallucci interviews Maas about the new book and then the two play a game called Beauty or Beast with fandom-dividing characters. Reader beware: minor book spoilers ahead.

No superfan is perfect. Maas is mispronounced in the video; it should be pronounced “mass.”

Kelly Gallucci
Far too busy rereading the Harry Potter series, Kelly finds that her greatest literary sin is that she neglected to read classics like The Shining and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. In between overseeing the editorial content for Bookish, holding interviews with authors like Leigh Bardugo and Victoria Schwab, and creating book recommendations for Kanye West—Kelly’s trying to catch up on the books she missed out on. She just finished The Great Gatsby and might be in love with Fitzg. Kelly received her B.A. in English Writing from Marist College and her M.A. in Screenwriting from National University of Ireland, Galway. She is a Gryffindor.
