After writing two books about the Holocaust—the 1988 memoir Eva’s Story and 2005’s The Promise, both detailing her year in Auschwitz as a 15-year-old—Eva Schloss admits the horror hasn’t stopped. In her new memoir, After Auschwitz: A Story of Heartbreak and Survival by the Stepsister of Anne Frank, the 83-year-old Order of the British Empire member covers how traumatic it was to cope with the loss of her father, brother, and neighbor/soon-to-be stepsister to the Nazi regime when, haunted by fresh guilt, “no one wanted to know what had happened.”
