Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, Nobel Laureate Nadine Gordimer, and Booker Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro are three of 50 noted authors who have annotated, illustrated or revised a first edition of one of their works for a fundraising auction to be held at London’s Sotheby’s on May 21. The marginalia provide some surprising revelations, such as Yann Martel’s confession that he “never liked” his opening line for Life of Pi. All proceeds go to English PEN, a worldwide organization campaigning for the freedom to read and write. (Photo Credit: English PEN.)
