Once you have installed the Bookish Reader on your iPad/iPhone or Android device, sign in using the email and password that you registered with on Bookish.
To download books from your Bookish library, tap “Get Books” in the navigation bar. Then, select the e-book that you wish to read and tap the "download" icon next to it.
You can also download an e-book by tapping the book link that comes in your confirmation email from Bookish. Open the confirmation email on your iPad/iPhone or Android device and tap the download link. You will now be prompted to open the e-book in the Bookish Reader.
Once your e-book has finished downloading, you will have the choice to “Read Now” or “Read Later.” Tap “Read Later” if you wish to download additional books. If you are ready to dive into your new e-book, tap “Read Now.” Enjoy!
READING PROTECTED E-BOOKS
The Bookish Reader supports e-books protected with Adobe Digital Rights Management (DRM) software, such as those available at Bookish. By signing in to the app with your Bookish username and password, you are authorized to read Adobe e-books with your Bookish account.
If you wish to de-authorize your account and login with a different Adobe account, you can do so at any time using the "Deauthorize" button in the info tab.
TRANSFERRING E-BOOKS FROM OTHER DEVICES
There are several ways to transfer Adobe e-books into the Bookish Reader. Some e-books, however, are only authorized for use in a single device. Therefore, they are not transferrable as their permissions are set by the e-book publisher and cannot be overridden.
Downloading from other sites
If you have an e-book from another site, you may download your e-book directly into the Bookish Reader. To do so, tap the download link while on your iPad/iPhone or Android. You will be prompted to open the e-book in the Bookish Reader.
Transferring e-books using iTunes (iPad/iPhone Devices)
The Apple iTunes application has a “File Sharing” feature that you can use to transfer e-books from your personal computer to the Bookish Reader.
Step 1: Launch iTunes on your computer and connect your iPad/iPhone.
Step 2: Your device should appear under “Devices” in the left panel of iTunes. Click on your device.
Step 3: Select the “Apps” tab in the top navigation bar.
Step 4: Scroll to the bottom of the page. Underneath the “Sync Apps” panel, you will see the "File Sharing" panel. Select the Bookish Reader, and a list of the e-books in the app will populate in the right panel.
Step 5: Click “Add.” Locate the ePub or PDF file(s) you would like to transfer to the Bookish Reader from your computer. Select the file(s), and iTunes will transfer those files to your iPad/iPhone.
Step 6: After you have synced your application with iTunes, open the Bookish Reader and your e-book(s) will be listed in app's library.
Transferring e-books using Dropbox
Dropbox is a free application that allows you to transfer files between your computers and devices via the Dropbox website.
Step 1: Upload your e-book(s) or PDF(s) to your Dropbox account on your computer.
Step 2: Install the Dropbox app on your iPad/iPhone or Android device.
Step 3: Once installed, open Dropbox and log into your account. Find the folder where you uploaded your e-book(s)/PDF(s).
Step 4: Tap on the e-book/PDF you want to read. The file will be downloaded to your iPad/iPhone or Android device and opened on the Bookish Reader. Enjoy!
Opening e-books using other apps
The Bookish Reader supports the “Open In” feature. In any application on your iPad/iPhone or Android, tap and hold on an ePUB or PDF file. You will be prompted to open the file with an application. Select the Bookish Reader, and that file will automatically be downloaded into the app's library.
Transferring e-books via the SD Card (Android Devices)
The Bookish Reader has an "Import from SD Card" feature that can be used to transfer e-books from your computer to your app.
Step 1: Connect your Android device to your computer and mount your SD card.
Step 2: Transfer your e-book file(s) to /mnt/sdcard/bookish/imports
Step 3: Unmount your SD card.
Step 4: In the Bookish Reader, tap on the "Info" button in the navigation bar. Then tap on "Import" in the "Import from SD Card" panel.
Step 5: Your imported e-book(s)/PDF(s) will appear in the app's library. Enjoy!
MANAGING YOUR E-BOOKS
Tap the “Library” button in the navigation bar of the Bookish Reader. All of your downloaded e-books will be listed.
Views: You can view library titles in either list view or cover view. Icons to switch between views are located in the upper left corner in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
Sorting/filtering titles: You may sort your library titles by recent, title or author.
Deleting an e-book: Tap the “Edit” button in the upper right corner. Once in edit mode, tap the icon next to the title you wish to delete. Tap “Delete” to remove the title from your library. Tap “Done” to exit edit mode.
Info page: While in list view, tap the arrow to the right of the e-book's title. The e-book's details—such as author, publisher, etc.—will appear on this page. There are also options to delete or open the e-book.
Editing e-book metadata: From an e-book's "Info" page, select “Edit.” You can update the e-book’s title, author, publisher information or restore it back to its default settings.
Opening an e-book: In the library, tap the cover or title of an e-book to read it.
Turning pages: There are several ways to go from page to page within the Bookish Reader. You can swipe from left to right to move to the next page or swipe in the opposite direction to move to a previous page. You can also tap in the center of the screen to view the navigation bar. There directional arrows will appear. A scroll bar will also appear if you want skip through pages.
Navigation bar: Tap the center of an e-book to view or hide the navigation bar.
Table of contents: While reading an e-book, tap “Contents” in the navigation bar. The e-book’s table of contents will populate, and you can access any section of an e-book via this page.
Selecting text: Press and hold on any word to select it. A magnifying glass will appear to help you select words or phrases. Drag the highlighter tool to your desired start and end points. Then tap “Highlight” to copy the selected text or tap “Note” to create a bookmark.
Creating a bookmark: There are several ways to create a bookmark. Tap to view the navigation bar and then tap the icon in the upper right corner. You may also select text on any page and tap the "Note" button. Use the “Bookmark” screen that pops up to add annotations to your bookmark. If the bookmark contains an excerpt, that text will be highlighted in the e-book’s content.
Viewing /editing /deleting bookmarks: While reading an e-book, tap “Bookmarks” in the navigation bar to view a list of the bookmarks you’ve created. You may sort your bookmarks by the dates on which they were created or in order of the page numbers on which they were placed.
To edit the note attached to a bookmark, tap the arrow to the right of the bookmark.
To delete a bookmark, tap the edit icon in the upper right corner. Tap "Edit." Then tap the button next to the title of the bookmark you wish to delete and tap “Delete.”
Searching within an e-book: To search for a word or phrase within an e-book, tap the “Search” button in the navigation bar. Enter a term or phrase and perform a search. Your results will be highlighted. Tap on one of the results to advance to the page with your search query.
Sharing on social networking sites: While reading an e-book, highlight the text you would like to share. A prompt will open. Tap "More" and then "Share." A list of social networking sites will populate, such as Twitter and Facebook. The corresponding app will open up and you will be asked to confirm before sharing your message.
Settings: You can set reading preferences using the “Settings” button in the navigation bar within an e-book. There you will find the two tabs: “General” and “Formatting.” The ePub and PDF file types have different settings. PDF files allow you to zoom the whole page but do not allow users to change the font size, while ePUB files enable changes to font size.

• Enable swipe up/down for brightness
Formatting tab (ePUB only):
For ePUBs, you can override publisher formatting by switching “Use Publisher’s Formatting” to off. Doing this allows you to update additional settings. Please note: This may cause unexpected results, depending on the formatting initially set by the publisher. Here are the settings you may update on this tab:
• Select font face
• Enable justified text alignment
• Select text color
• Select background color
• Select color theme
