Watch: 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Trailer Unites Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy
The first trailer for "X-Men: Days of Future Past" is here! And fans who felt let down by the early-2000s "X-Men" movies can breathe easy: This installment looks like it will have the same energy as 2011's "X-Men: First Class."
"Days of Future Past" is based on Chris Claremont's 1980 comic book storyline of the same name: In an alternate dystopian future, mutants are imprisoned in internment camps. In the comic, Kitty Pryde (here played by Ellen Page) transfers her mind into her younger body and tries to change the future. Judging from the trailer, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) also does some time traveling, with the aim of finding the younger Professor X (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender). Jennifer Lawrence also returns as Mystique, caught between her adoptive brother and the man she loves.
The real treat of this trailer, however, is seeing the young and old versions of the same characters interact. That scene at the end, with McAvoy crying, "I don't want your future!" to Patrick Stewart? Gah, I just teared up!
"X-Men: Days of Future Past" comes to theaters May 23, 2014.
