Jennifer Lawrence to Play Evil Seductress in 'East of Eden'
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" star Jennifer Lawrence continues to take on literary adaptations: She's following up her Best Actress win for "Silver Linings Playbook" with a starring role as Cathy Ames in the new adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic novel "East of Eden." Despite her darker roles in "Silver Linings Playbook" and the forthcoming "Serena," this will be Lawrence's first turn as a full-fledged villain. How villainous? Let's just say Cathy leaves a trail of soul-destroyed men in her wake and runs the most successful bordello in town.
We're surprised but delighted by the casting: If you haven't read "East of Eden," Cathy Ames is one of the most hateful characters in literature. (Those who've read it will know that "catching fire" applies to Cathy, as well.) We're thinking Lawrence's take on Cathy will look something like this:
...with a little bit of this thrown in:
Will Lawrence be able to bring off the same seductive malevolence that her predecessor, Jane Seymour, brought to the role in the 1981 miniseries?
What do you think about J. Law playing an uber-villain with a "malformed soul"? Will this be another sure Oscar win?
