Author Lynsay Sands Reveals Her Romance Picks
I love unique and logical takes on paranormal romance--sadly there aren’t many of those out there. So, instead, I look for stories that make me laugh. Unfortunately, I’ll be knee deep in writing my own books in March, but the minute I’m done, I’ll be digging into books by Terri Garey and Molly Harper. Both ladies make me laugh--or at least smile--and both take me away from my worries for a while. That, to me, makes a good book.
I think a good book needs the right blend of action and humor to be really great, and Terri Garey hits the nail on the head with her Nicki Styx series (and it doesn't hurt that book one features a hunky ER doc). I had a blast reading about how, after her near death experience, Nicki Styx is plagued by a bunch of spirits asking her for favors and keeping her from enjoying her new boyfriend and running her vintage store. Everything gets really tense and exciting when a friend ends up selling her soul to the devil. I really enjoyed the earlier books in this series, starting with "Dead Girls Are Easy."
Other books in the series: "A Match Made in Hell"(book two), "You’re the One That I Haunt" (book three), "Silent Night, Haunted Night" (book four).
Molly Harper's “Nice Girls Don't" books are fun and playful. I love any book that makes me laugh out loud, and the thought of nicegirl Jane Jameson going on a bender that ends with her being mistaken for a deer and shot--and then turned into a vampire to save her life--makes me smile. In the first book, "Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs," Jane ends up having to get used to being a vamp, which I always thought would be a tough adjustment! Her vampire-sire Gabrielle is a great protagonist to read about, and when Jane eventually gets framed for vampire-murders, I can't put the book down!
Other books in the series: "Nice Girls Don’'t Date Dead Men" (book two), "Nice Girls Don't Live Forever" (book three), "Nice Girls Don't Bite Their Neighbors (book four)."
